there's probably a lot of writeups on here.. search around some. i've never done it. i have a md05 that i'll probably get in my b2 someday. but not soon.
mine's an auto.. its the "weak" a4ld to.. but i aint had any issues what so ever with it..
drive it around a bit before you bite the bullet and do the manual swap. sure its worth it if you can do the work yourself. but drive the auto. you can off road w/ an auto. i know ALOT who do. just go one gear set lower w/ an auto than a manual as a rule of thumb.
??? they pull just as well as a manual.. except some aint as low geared 1st gear.. that's why i said gear the axles one lower (numerically higher) for an auto..
but we do more trail and rocks than mud.. idk what you do offroading. but auto's work for it.
