Should i get a new 3rd brake light gasket

There is water inside my 3rd brake light assembly cover what does the ranger station recommend me doing to fix my problem.

You can see some water in my 3rd brake light assembly below on the left side lower of my cargo light.

This is the second time water has leaked into there.

unless it is leaking into the cab, do not touch it. plus you have to buy the whole lamp assembly to get the gasket

There is no water leaking into my cab on my truck, I found this gasket for $9.98 on ebay with free delivery. yea if there is no water leaking, leave it alone. Far too many times i have seen if you remove it to replace a bulb or for whatever reason it will not seal right again and then it will leak like crazy. That has long long been a weak spot for Ford trucks

If you are getting water into the lamp itself, im willing to bet that the lens has a crack in it somewhere

I'm concerned about how generic that gasket's description is, because unless I'm wrong, while some of the assemblies are close, there isn't a direct-fit-to-Ranger F-series 3rd brake light housing.

When i replaced the housing on my 98 due to the lens yellowing at the cargo lamps, the part number actually changed to the 2011-16 super duty PN. I was shocked

You can leave the Ford dealer parts life, but it can't leave you...haha

when you run a parts department for 10+ years and still do it part time, you would be amazed the amount of useless knowledge you obtain...haha

If the lens is filling full of water and you don't want to disturb whatever kind of voodoo is keeping it from trashing your headliner (which is a common issue) you could drill a small drain hole in the bottom of the lens to let the water out.

I never understood why people mess with getting new gaskets or making them for these. Just remove the light if needed and slather on a bunch of black gasket maker. Reinstall light and wipe around the light mating area with paper towels. You can't even tell it's been done if you're neat about it.

Seriously. Blue tape is your friend here. Makes a great cutoff line.

i was wrong i was thinking that the gasket was seperate but its built into the 3rd brake light assembly
