DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT RUN RIFLED SLUGS THROUGH A RIFLED MOSSBERG BARREL. Every Mossberg i have owned has stated in the manual not to run rifled slugs through the rifled barrel, it will damage them.

I currently have a M500 12gauge, combo. 26" smooth barrel and 24" rifled barrel ported. it will do 3" groups with sabot slugs.

Also do not shoot bird or buckshot out of a rifled barrel; you get a very pronounced dough nut effect/pattern after 10yards.

"Fully rifled barrels deliver best accuracy with sabot style slugs. “Rifled” slugs and shotshells are not recommended for use in rifled barrels."

Maybe if you use a rifled choke... Otherwise there isn't much of an advantage over a foster slug. Rifled slugs are meant to engage rifling. A rifled slug in a smooth bore is pointless.

Rifled slugs are meant for smoothbore barrles, the grooves are to get them to spin on their own like rifling would do to a sabot slug.

It says everywhere (including the boxes the shells come in) to use rifled slugs in smoothbore barrels and sabots in rifled barrels.


My dad tried to cheap out and shoot rifled slugs thru his rifled 870, it was all over the page.

I have had the best luck running Federal ammo thru my Mossberg 500.
