ordered a part from California recently.
despite the weather it arrived at the local UPS in good time.
it was free shipping/package delivery and was to be handed off the USPS for local delivery, about 10 miles.

UPS tracking says it was handed over to USPS 5 days ago,
USPS tracking says it's still waiting on package from UPS.

Grrr :temper:

I just had USPS deliver my welder wire I had ordered with the one spool completely out of the mangled box it was shipped in… I should get a pic of this disaster…

Abolish USPS. Absolute waste of taxpayer money. I'll pay extra, every time, to use FedEx or UPS.

I'd be surprised if you ever get that package.

At times, FedEx and UPS aren’t any better than the postal service.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, a big problem with the USPS is that the union protects the lazy employees and has things so locked down that the extra help they hire during the holidays is only used for grunt work, you aren’t allowed to operate any equipment and the equipment is badly dated anyway.

before I retired the main post office in Toledo had some equipment I maintained. 'nuff said.

this package is (was?) a footlong hydraulic ram so breaking out of the box is certainly possible.

USPS doesn't receive taxpayer funding for normal operations. There are some subsidies for free shipping for blind and disabled, and overseas shipping, which I believe is for military purposes.

I really haven't had any problems with USPS. I had once incident wherein I submitted a search for lost mail, which wasn't the fault of USPS. A payment I mailed migrated between the mailbox and the wall where I work because someone didn't fully reinstall the mailbox after the wall was painted. My complaint was that I requested that the letter, if found, be returned to me. Instead, I received a letter that they found the payment and forwarded it instead of returning it due to something or other law passed by Congress. UPS, on the other hand, has shipped things I've ordered from here on the West Coast to Kentucky, which causes unnecessary delays. And then there was the computer power supply I ordered from a place in Georgia a few years back which took 16 days to arrive. The real oddity with that one was the tracking mentioned it was scanned as arrived and departed at a Greyhound facility, then vanished for 8 days before arriving at UPS again.

Fun fact, all express or overnight shipments through UPS at least recently go through their main hub in Louisville KY...

I had something similar happen in the fall. I went to post office they did some looking and said the label got destroyed in transit.

I had to contact the seller, who was able to retrieve it somehow, relabel it, and i finally got it.

As far as shipping companies....UPS is cream of the crop IMO, USPS is better then Fedex (F'ed express)

UPS is also union. That also describes UPS during the holidays too.

Not much cream to that crop. I had UPS use a box of brewing supplies as a seat for a week before delivering it to me. The box was clearly marked that it was brewing supplies and I got it with a smashed box and the imprint of someone’s arse in the top and half of my stuff smashed. I was NOT happy. Between that and UPS taking over a week to get me packages from the other side of the state, I’m not happy with UPS.

All the major shipping services suck.

No, not all express or overnight shipments. I ship a lot of stuff where I work. About 1 in 15 packages that I ship to other West Coast cities end up in Kentucky. The rest of them go directly to Los Angeles, Portland, Salt Lake, Seattle, or wherever I ship them to. When I ship ground from here in Sacramento, the packages arrive the next day when the destination is within about 200 miles. Portland, Los Angeles, San Diego, are normally two-days. The issue I've had is those odd packages that I ship overnight to one of those cities sometimes ends up in Kentucky before coming back to the West Coast, and that ends up being a three-day shipment. I've made shipments with multiple boxes to the same address and had one box arrive the next day while the other box goes on a UPS tour across the country and back. And, it wouldn't make sense for UPS to fly everything from here to Kentucky for overnight shipments because it takes 3-4 hours to sort it, 4-5 hours to fly it, another 3-4 hours to sort it in Kentucky, then another 4-5 hours to fly it back, several hours to sort it at a regional hub, then another several hours to drive it to the the facility that finally puts it on a truck out for delivery. That is about a full day. The reality is it arrives in Kentucky overnight and is sent back to the West Coast the following day. At this point the package is already late. After it arrives at a sorting facility here it takes a half to a full day before it is out for delivery again.
