what do you guys think this would take to do in a 94 ranger.
unscrew boot, remove 3 retainer screws, replace parts and reinstall.

1/2 hour maybe 1 hour tops if you have to scratch your ass.

a mechanic doing my transmission is trying to charge me 500 bucks labor. :icon_surprised: :thefinger:

Does he charge $500 an hour?

Might take 2 hours because you have to pull the seats and carpet to get at it from the top. But..... I would say $75 to $80 tops. Of course if you had me do it it would be $50 and a case of beer that you help drink.

He didn't do it the hard way and drop the transmission? Did he?

You're expensive, I usually ask for a handle of rum and liter of cola. For fun I once had my sister buy me condoms as payment.

Back on track, that's a mechanics way of saying "I don't want to do the job". Coupled with he thinks it involves dropping the tranny.

Sent from the road while ignoring traffic

no reason to pull the seats or the carpet, all you gotta do is pull the shifter boot. when i did mine, i drove to the dealer, picked up my parts, drove back to work and installed all the parts. all in a 1 hour lunch break. i had time to eat as well...

do it yourself, its nearly impossible to screw up. make sure you're in neutral before you pull the shifter, and dont drop anything inside the trans. stupid simple.

thanks, it just amazes me that they think people are that stupid.

Yeh but that way you don't find all those things that you thought were lost forever under the seat. :D

i had to rake it apart twice because i did something wrong. easy job though. i do remember slicing up my hand

I have done a few of these seals, yeah really hard to mess up.
1. 2 screws for the shiftier cover
2. A bolt that holds that shiftier(undo the nut and use it on the opposite side to pull the bolt)
3. 4 screws the remove the bottom plastic cover.
4. Three hex screws to remove the seal.

1hr i would say tops taking your time

Good Luck
