Alright I know that with most fords including my Ranger the shift knob is a press fit. What kind of replacement ideas are there seeing as I can't find a nice aftermarket knob thats press fit? And can I get away with just taping my shift lever and using a screw on knob?

Thanks for readin

You can find a knob that has a set screw- drop it on the stick and tighten the set screw.

Or you can thread the stick with a pipe threader.

Or you can go get yourself a billiards ball (of your choice) and drill it just a smidge smaller than the splines on the shifter. Put some silicone into it and press it on. Voila

you can get a better knob from your local ford dealer that is a much better feel in your hand in my opinion. I put one in my Ex and im thinking about getting them for our 89 ranger and my dads BII as well. Its solid plastic, not as slick or rounded and with out the stupid inset that always comes loose and spins. This one the number are embossed and i suppose if you liked you could use some paint and color the inset numbers and pattern with your choice color.....now im making myself want to try it....

used one of the hurst "hammer" style shifter knobs, drilled it out to fit the shifter and tapped it for a 1/4-20 set screw, it doesn't move
