i'm new to trucks and offroading them, the only off roading i've done previously is on dirtbikes. sorry if i sound ignorant.

when ever i get in the dirt and give it alot of gas the wheels start spinning and it feels like the transmission and/or engine is shaking like crazy, as well as my shifter (5spd) shaking violently. i can also hear the filter on my k&n rattling against the engine compartment. is this normal? can this be fixed? is this a condition of bad engine or transmission mounts? i dont have a locker but need 1.

It's axle wrap. The springs are twisting and releasing rapidly, it's usually more common on 4x4 rangers since they have blocks in the rear.
It's like this except yours is cycling because the tires are spinning and constantly catching and loosing traction. This video also has the solution, a traction bar.

sounds like hahns is right on the money. another thing that will help is removing any blocks you have between the axle and leafs. the closer the axle to the leaf, the less leverage it has. obviously you will have to make up the lost lift, but there are a few options other than blocks.

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but what recommendations do you guys have for traction bars? I was looking at the James Duff $99 version. Would these be adequate? I've got a 2006 FX4 Lvl2 I'd be putting them on.
