Not sure if its a big deal or not but i notice when taking off from a red light or accelerating from a slow speed a slight vibration or kick like somethin is loose in the rear end. its just brief until i get going and doesnt do that through any other gears, just in takeoff basically. I know this is vague but any ideas what it could be. I've owned two rangers and noticed it in both but this one seems a little more noticeable. Thanks.

you might have axle wrap

You need to stop the nervous foot jitters when you are waitin for the light to turn green. (Too Much Drag Racer in your blood.:D)

Might be the clutch or clutches in your transmission slipping a little bit, which could just jolt it a little in the rear.

maybe they have like limited slip in them and the person forgot to put in friction modifier or something as well.

All I can think of right now.

Could be a u-joint too. Do you hear a clunk?

Most likely either a u-joint or the slip yoke is causing the thump. Its actually a common problem and there is even a TSB on it. Inspect the u joints with the trans in neutral (and the tires blocked of course) to see if theres any play. If not, remove the boot on the slip yoke and pack it full of good quality grease.

Same thing was happening to my ranger and got worse and worse then finally the u joint snapped and my axle dug a hole in the road. i would crawl under it and check everything wiggle things around, even jack it up and turn the tires to see if you hear anything.
