Settle something for me...390 vs 400.


The spunky 2.9 is just fine.

The old 2.8 is just great.

The mighty 4.0, is so-so.

And the 3.0 is no-go.

But after the world ends,

And we’ve paid for our sins.

Honestly, this is no jive;

Only three things will be left alive:

Cockroaches, Keith Richards, and Ford Lima’s.

Youre probably right...the 300 came out of the lima plant....

So technically....

I've always wondered..

Is Lima pronounced like... The bean.. or is it L-ee-ma?

Cause.. if it's pronounced like the bean.. and it being first put in the pinto.. id say Ford had a bunch of mighty stoned engineers working for them at the time who had a real good chuckle over that one lol.

Ford was (and still is) ran by bean counters...

According to Wikipedia Lima Ohio (where the plant is located) is pronounced like the bean.

I think it's pronounced Li-ma but I', not certain, I called the engine plant years ago about a warranty replacement engine.
The Pinto was a good little car that got unfairly bashed. The federal spec for rear impact was 30mph and 20-20 got hold of Ford's video showing the results of a 60 mph crash test and sensationalized the crap out of it. Ford should have videod the same crash test using a Corolla, a Datsun, and a GM with the gas filler behind the license plate.

I saw crash-test footage decades ago of a late–1970s Corolla sedan that burst into flames in a rear collision just as Pintos were reported to do. My mother had a '78 Corolla two-door sedan, and the gas tank was mounted to the bulkhead between the back seat and truck, not in the trunk floor. The bulkhead and fuel tank meant there was no access to the trunk area from the interior. In theory that location for the tank should have been "safer" in a rear collision, but it really wasn't.

First gen Mustangs where the truck floor is literally the fuel tank probably wouldn't really fare very well either and they are worshiped by all.

My 3.0 is fine. Old but fine. EGR and EVAP gone. Converter doesn't convert any longer. Have to use a 160 thermostat to keep the computer from going into closed loop, runs open loop full time. Bottle under the hood full of E85, feeding through a vacuum hose straight into the intake manifold. I use a C clamp to pinch the hose to control the amount going in. No muffler, two pipes poking out in front of the left rear tire. Big Huge stainless steel mesh cone filter, with two scoops on the hood directly above it. JET tuning chip on the computer. Got 245/60 TA Radials on the back. Spin them all the time inadvertently. I think the E85, in addition to what the computer feeds it from the tank in full time open loop, does the trick.
 
I'm about an hour north Lima Ohio.
it is definitely pronounced Lye-ma, just like-like or trike

Lee-ma is in Peru
