serious problem..HELP PLEASE

ok..but im 95 percent positive that it is coming form the rear and not getting blown back..cause the drip is moving straight down..and even wen the fan is not moving..

is it possible to be anything serious like a crack in the block..where i mght aswell sell the truck...or is it like a 200 dollar or less fix?

It could just be a leaky hose or somethin simple man, you really just need to find the leak

ok kool..so thanks guys for all the help..im so glad i became a part of this site..i have been on here for like 3 days and i have already fixed to major problems...my radio didnt work and a watery headlight thanks to u guyslnow hopefully i can get this fixed..thanks for all the help guys..this site rocks:icon_thumby:

Like someone said check your freeze plugs. I don't know what's in the area of the oil filter, but I've got one leaking on the driver side of my block. On mine it just looked like a little green wet spot that originated at the freeze plug and went who knows where before finally dripping to the ground. Actually it's been leaking for a little over a year now, and I just keep topping off the antifreeze. Yeah I know I need to fix it so it won't hurt the environment or kill a cat, but I gotta finish the '84 first.

can smeone show me a picture of wat the freeze plug looks likeo n the block..

Josh, if I were you, I'd be concerned about that core plug just suddenly letting go on the highway.

I've seen the results from a Chrysler 318. Let's just say I christened it an "auxiliary crankcase ventilation port" and spent too much time cleaning little bits of aluminum out of the valves. And you're not supposed to be able to see wrist pins from above....

As for cost, replacing a core plug is like $2 in parts and $800 in labor. Unless you get massively lucky and it's accessible. Normally, they aren't.

If it is assessable...you can use an expansion plug fairly easy fix.Put it in and turn the bolt.Good Luck!

Freeze Plug

Rager,

A freeze plug is about 1.5 inches in diameter. It looks like a tiny pie pan or bottle cap. (a bottle cap without threads inside) It is pressed into the side the cast iron block and will be surrounded by a boss that sticks up about a half inch from the side of the block. They can be difficult to remove for first timers if you don't know how. It's really pretty simple.

If it is leaking you will see a tell-tale stream of residue down the side of the block. Sometimes there will be a build up of crud directly over the leaking point. If you can get it out, there are simple rubber and metal replacements that will stop it from leaking. They are much easier to install if you are working under the car. Be careful about prising on the side of the block to hard - you could crack the water jacket.

If yours is a 4.0 there is a freeze plug directly above the oil filter housing, sorta under the manifold.

Good luck.

hey rangerranger, by any chance are you anywhere in northern ohio? if so maybe I could come over and help find this leak. I find them all the time on big deisels at work. and kind of have an eye for finding them.

nope i live in new jersey.but isearched every where for that leak...it seems to be coming from the oil filter housing..literly coming right off of it..wich is sstupid because there shouldnt be any antfreeze there..and i dont have a cacked block because there would be wite foam in my oil and theres not..so its not the heater hosees..and i disconnect the eater c ore and loped it..and it still leaked..so its not the heater core..so i put a tube of those crystal style stop leak..and it worked..zero leakage..so idk

Cracks in the block dont always allow coolant into the oil. There can be an external crack that just leaks coolant outside of the engine.

Coolant leak

Beg or borrow a radiator pressure tester. Warm engine to operating temp. Attach pressure tester to radiator. Pump tester up to 20 pounds. Engine does not need to be running. Look for source for any coolant leak. Very easy even a cave man can do. Frank
