securilock key dupe on the cheap?

Just bought a used '03 and it only came with one key. It has the securilock coded key anti-theft system. I called the local dealer to find out what it would cost to get a second key. $95!! That seems outrageous to me. $30 I could stomach, but 3x that is hard to take.

Are there any other options?

I'm in the same boat as you man it sucks. but on the kinda good side i get 40 bux off a year on insurance because of it... so in 2 years and 6 months i can get a 2nd key,

You could look at Ebay, I don't know about those keys, but my truck only came with one remote unit and I got one off of Ebay at a decent price and it actually looks better than the one that came with the truck. So I gave the old one to my wife and kept the new one.

Maybe but you still need someone to cut and program it for you, but once you have 2 keys you can program up to 10? your self you just need the ''chipped'' key and get it cut.

if you want the PATS system to remain active, you dont have any other choice but to man up and spend the $95 (guess thats incentive not to loose your keys eh?).

there is a way to fool the system, however. take your solo key into the hardware store and have them cut a matching blank for you ($5). then pull the plastic dash panel out from under the steering wheel and hold your PATS key up to the column. put the copy in the ignition and turn it to the number 2 position (run) and experiment by moving your PATS key around until the flashing key on the dash goes off (if equipped) and the truck starts (you may have to try different orientations for the PATS key and getting it up near the ignition switch for this to work..some systems are more sensitive than others). once its working, secure your pats key to the column and re-install the panel.

of coarse this will render your PATS system useless.

i found a dealer 20 miles away that will do it for $67. even with the gas i'll burn that will save me about $20 so i'll probably do that. i guess the moral is to call around and see what everybody charges. i called other dealers too and nobody had the same price.

I just go down to the ace get a pats key made. then I go to my buddy on saturdays at ford and get it programed for a six pack. I love the hook ups.
I will be really fun when I take my 87 ranger down to get a pats key programed.
