Bought her last Sunday

1986 XLT Extended Cab
144K miles. Auto trans
Tuned her up this morning before work.

Changed the oil, plugs, air filter.

Still need to flush my radator, change trans fluid, and put my new plug wires in.

Has the dual tanks, both had/have keyed caps. Didnt have the key for the rear cap so I took a flat head screwdriver and a mallet and 30 seconds later its gone.

Put a new Sony deck in it (should have bought the Pioneer for $20 more)

Installed a Cobra CB and ordered a PA Speaker on ebay that should be here Friday.

I also bought some Scochse Speakers, total garbage. Dont waist your money.

Went to the junk yard today and scored a tan center consoul out of a Expolder for cheap. Next paycheck Im going back for some bucket seats. I also grabbed a overhead light/clock assembly from a BroncoII. Can't use the clock but I got some idears on what to replace it with. Also grabbed some late model Ranger XLT logos to replace the 1st gen ones but I don't like em as much as I thought. If anyone wants em let me know.

Well, long time no update.
As some of you may have read in another post, my fuel pump went out. Still isnt fixed. I was riding my Vespa home from work and from Napa the next day when I got hit by a car. Broke my right femur and left arm. Totaled my P200. Im more pissed about my scooter. Just a heads up, watch for scooters. We go just as fast as cars and if its vintage, good chance were speeding lol.

Ordered 2 new fuel pumps last night and Im going to order 2 new sending units tomorrow afternoon. My friend is going to swap out the pumps for me and I may as well have him do the sending units while hes in there.

Next I need a new master cylinder reservoir . Cant seem to find just the reservoir so I found a new master cylinder for $30 shipped. Got that coming as well.

I started planning out what I want to do with the truck. I know I want to paint it in the spring and re-do the interior this winter. Only problem is a color choice. I think the exterior will either be Oxford white or a re-spray of the tan. Then black accents, smoked lights, and some Crager soft 8's. Then plan on ordering some 8k HID's

Ill update as I start gathering more parts and get some work done on it.

Got it running, wasn't the fuel pump. Just a bad wire.

Pulled the passenger seat out today, the PO was a pig. Taking both seats and carpet to the car wash for some cleaning.

Got a free tool box today for it, Ill try and get it in on Wensday (going to rain tomorrow). And I got a 4.0 from a '92 Exploder to put in this spring or maybe this winter.
What other transmission can I use besides a C4?

The tool box was too big for the Ranger. So its going to go on my trailer.
Hopefully Ill be able to have a garage this Saturday. Going to try and get a Side by Side out of there thats been in there for over a year (wrecked and its taken apart).

Any one ever have good paint work from Macco? I know its probably going to be shit but they got a sale for $299 and I think anything would look better than it does now.

You can (and it's recommended to) swap in an M5OD 5 spd from an explorer or Ranger.


I've never used Maaco, but my company used a similar cheap place to paint a couple trucks. Often for the base price they don't paint the door jambs or under the hood, etc. You could pay more, but they still don't remove the door panels. If you do some of the prep like removing trim it might help. I've also heard that Maaco makes their money off bodywork, and don't like painting something unless it's perfect.

just got towed home. im starting to hate this truck.
died on me, try to start and it does but dies 2 seconds latter (if that). then after about 1 min it will start again but dies right after. Im thinking clogged fuel filter(s). any other ideas?
