Sandbags or other / how much and were?

500 Lbs right over the axle.

More if I am going to be going out in really bad weather (6" or more of snow). I one had to go out when we got over a foot in 4 hrs, I ran almost 1000 lbs back there. I had NO problems.

Good snow tires and KNOWING how to drive in the snow with that truck make all the difference.

Mine does, I've had over 1000 lbs in the bed and aside from the suspension being a bit softer, I didn't even notice it back there.

Mine doesnt mind it now that i have new shocks. When I had 700 the shocks were 11 years old, and one had a hole in it. All I know Is, that with the new heavy duty shocks and spring helpers, I could haul about anything that will fit back there.

I sometimes throw my dead girlfriends in the bed, 2 of 'em will usually net you around 210 pounds, about perfect for the snowy days.

:icon_rofl:

Are you sure they're dead or just in a deep, sexually induced coma?

I used some nice squared off blocks of granite that fell off our old barn foundation. I think it's good for about 300#s. I figure since they're about the same size as a bag of sand, they're no more dangerous than one once that sand is nice and frozen solid.

Got some thick cut 2x10's (it's thicker than 2", but not 3".. it's a weird chunk of wood) to keep it all right over the axle. Been fine for the 5 years I've been doing it. I usually pack it with snow too.

Well, they usually die as a result of the intense sexually induced coma. :icon_thumby:

Use whatever you want. Do not put it behind the rear axle. Put it over the axle or slightly forwards of the axle, against the cab is simplest, but not as nice as over the axle.

I've got about 200 pounds of stone from the quarry in the bed of my truck. Just two great big rocks. I've been thinking about taking one out. I have them right between the wheel wells, since that made the most sense to me.

Ah...and your withdrawl is sorta like taking them off life support...hmmm...:icon_bounceblue:

I have been known to have that effect on women, and you can ask around on that one. Although, there have only been a few survivors.

It also could have been suffocation from being under the tonneu cover as well, but you never know.

If you have a bed cover, might I suggest using water softener salt. I use about 6 40lb bags in my truck right over the rear axle between the wheel wells. A few nice things:

- I don't have to store sand bags in the summer (I use the salt)
- The salt will not freeze into a solid block like tube sand will (after it absorbs moisture)
- I only buy water softener salt once a year.
- It stays where I put it. It doesn't move at all (and I have a plastic drop in bed liner). When I did sand one year, it was always shifting around, because it wicked moisture, and turned into one big frozen block. If you get in an accident, you don't want 50 pound frozen bags of sand flying at the back of your head.

Might not be good if you don't have a water softener, though!

I always just shoveled the snow from the driveway into the bed until it was full.
