Salage TK-5 wont go into reverse?....

I just got an '84 TK-5 to bolt up to my 2.3. It goes from 1st through 5th smoothly, but when i go to put it in reverse, it feels like it hits a brick wall. It just feels like theres not even a reverse. HELP!! Please!

OK, so i took the guides out of the side of the shifter. and now it goes into reverse like a charm. So i guess now the question is-how do i go about trimming the guide or just chopping it off? or can i just take both of them out and block of the holes that they go into?
