i bought my truck (87 ranger, 2.9) with no engine and junk a4ld trans. i pulled the trans and put in a new engine (also 87 2.9) and a new trans, fm145 manual. i unplugged the jumper from the clutch safety switch plug and plugged it into the appropriate switch on the clutch but it still wont start. if i turn on the key and jump the solenoid with a screwdriver it will start and run fine. so what am i missing (safety switch for the auto trans maybe?) or should i try putting the clutch switch jumper back in? i really want that switch to work properly...

if it started normally with the jumper in then i'd say the clutch switch is probably bad.

it never started when i had it, but it had the auto previously so i bet there should be some trans switch i havn't found yet...guess i will start digging through wiring diagrams

Jumper the neutral safety switch. The neutral switch on a manual transmission has nothing to do with safety; you can legitimately start it in gear, as long as the clutch is down.

thats what it was, the switch on the auto trans needed to be in park or neutral so i jumpered it. the clutch switch works so its still safe...thanks MAKG
