Safe speed in 4WD high?

There is no maximum speed in 4wd. There is a maximum you can engage it, mainly the 1983-2001 systems. Anything newer than 2001 can be engaged at any speed.

Most everyone I talk to agrees 50-55 is the max and 40-45 is preferable. The only way to engage mine acording to the manul is come to a dead stop and engage the 4wd while in park. Same with coming out of 4wd. I wish I could through it up in 4wd while moving. That would be SWEEEET!! :D

Huh... Well do as you please.

My wife had a 1999 Ranger 3.0L auto with the dial switch for 4WD and I shifted in and out all the time while moving anywhere from 2mph to 55mph. In fact one time it was flooding on the roadway and I shifted it at 65mph.

I never read the owners manual, but it didn't hurt the truck.

Regardless of speed or conditions a vehicle in 4wd is more stable than 2wd. I have run 4wd many times right up to 65 or so. No troubles.

This is my first Ranger...& first 4x4. But I have to definatly agree. I didn't get stupid or anything, but I made it around in this snow and ice with virtually no problems. I actualy made it around better than some of my F-150's. People in Nashville don't slow down in snow & ice untill the're in the ditch or on the back of wrecker! I love this little truck!! :headbang:
