S2K start button

my cigg lighter works, but i think somewhere in it it's messed up because the whole assembly comes out when i pull it out, but if i were to fix that (or just buy a new one) would there be any way to wire it so that instead of heating up a coil when i push it in, it would start the truck?

You could make a button look like the lighter, and mount it there, but to use the lighter itself I doubt it.

if you guys want, if found a website a few days ago with skin covers like that, they range from 80-143 dollars depending on the set you get...they got a whole bunch of colors...

.ill look it up for you when i get home. :icon_thumby:

what about just using the part that actually pushes in on the lighter? like for example on mine it's just a black button with some "chrome" around the edge and a white cigg outlined

The only thing I can think of is to gut it, so that the lighter is a hollow shell that the push in part moves freely in and install a button at the bottom that gets pushed when you push in the lighter. Just a momentary on button that is rated for 12 volts, wire it just like the diagram, but have it down inside the lighter so that when you push the lighter it pushes the button. or get a button and carefully glue the handle from the lighter on it and mount it where the ligter went.

so to clarify from your first post, i can wire this so that i can either use the key to crank the truck, or use the key then press the button, right?

yes, if you use a quick splice onto the red/blue wire so tat it is not cut then th ke or the buton will crank the truck. If you cut the red/blue wire and run it straight to the relay then only the button will crank the truck.

Cool stuff. its not hard to do. Just make sure to take your time and make the connections solid. IF you want to check to be sure the wire colors are the same for your year check a remote start diagram for your year. should be the same being an 05, and remember the top yellow wire coming out of the column is the key on powered wire that is best to pull from.

actually since you are using a relay you actually could use the cig-lighter as a button you just have spread the catches in the socket abit so that it doesn't stay in have seen it done for a very simple immobilizer. Think about it you get out of car you take lighter with you.

well that is my 2 cents.

well, then, ill just start carrying around my lighter with me? just pop it in and boom, started and off you vehicle goes??? lol, but really smart idea...people would be confused as hell as to why i dont have a key, but a lighter in my pocket! haha

in my dad sand rail, its a push button start, but we run a hidden button that also has to be pushed in, and its impossible to look at and see where its at, and it does nothing when not pushed in.
