Rusted solid, any ideas?

i had to take my bed off and took the torch and got a piece of 2 inch square metal and beat the piss out of it with a 20lb sledge and it came out after about 2 hours.

One would hope, but if the weak spot is not at the hitch, there could be some safety issues there. For God's sake, don't use a chain....

Key word "strapping". Strong chains are fine for pulling, they're designed for it, just don't yank them.

rboyer, that's not what i'm saying. If the inspection is legit and thorough, that rotted frame should have never made it through per PA inspection requirements. Meaning if you don't know anyone. I personally don't go to walmart or sears for inspections. But I'm certainly not comfortable driving an unsafe vehicle at any cost. If I have to take it to a garage that is a lick and stick, than it's time to part the vehicle out, or send it to the scrap yard. I also know a few garages that slap stickers on as well. Here in luzerne county you are required to get the emissions (visual testing btw). Quite frankly lick and sticks make me angry. Unsuspecting buyers of inspected vehicles usually are unaware of the problems. By seeing an inspection sticker most people would feel assured there are no major safety issues with the vehicle. Not everyone is mechanically inclined to look under a vehicle and diagnose problems that some other *** let through. I'd much rather take it to a place that follows the law, than one that would push unsafe vehicles through. Furthermore allowing unsafe vehicles on the road is plain stupid, what if the vehicle fails and someone is killed over it? cool isn't it? I think not.

I just like the fact that I can take my own vehicle to get inspected and not have to sit there and wait forever. The last time I trusted a "thorough" garage I was left on the side of the road a week later with a rotted/broken leaf spring bracket. Now I only trust myself. Seriously the only places around here that actually look at your vehicle are also the same guys who will try to tell you that your brand new balljoints aren't passable or try to talk you into a oil change and transmission flush.

get a come-along anchor it to something, put a good amount of tension on it(the straighter the pull the better) and go to town with a BFH. Like others have said, heat will deffenitely help. alot.

I'm from the people's republic of New York, and I have to say that I always thought PA rust "rules" were bull. I live less than 10 miles from the NY/PA border, and I always wondered what such good looking cars and trucks were doing in the junkyard. Honestly, if the pictured truck was just going to be junked anyways, I'd run it until it completely crapped out. I did that with an isuzu...ran it until the frame failed.

Here's the thing, I'm from farm country. I am sick to death of more and more restrictions on BS stuff like a little bit of rust. Now in NY you have to pass a computer scan. I am beginning to like OH more and more.... I personally feel that if you can get it to balance on 3 wheels they would let you drive it there.

As to the OP, just put a new hitch on... I wouldn't trust it after heating or after yanking it out.

well the rust on the sides of the vehicle is bs to me, but when I see a vehicle weak structuraly, then I have a problem with it. Vehicles with large holes in the frame are definately considered weak structuraly. That's all I'm saying. As for rusted fenders/door panels/ etc that is total bs to me. it's just cosmetic.

what I like to do with things that are rusted, fasteners or otherwise, Is hit it with some heat (doesnt need to be alot, about a hundred or so degrees increase in material temp is fine), then spray with a good penetrating lubricant.
The heat dissipation naturally sucks the lubricant into the void and allows it to work.
Then try moving said stuck part.
Repeat as required.
Used this method with great success on many an occasion, even to free up the bleeder screw for my front calipers when I recently had to change the Master.
Not even an oxy-acetelyne torch, I just used my portable MAPP unit with a rosebud tip.

i know it sounds stupid, but pour cola and kool-aid powder on the joint before you start backing it into shit. The other thing is to try and take the mount off, so you can work on it in a better environment. the last thing is try to try to pound it out the other side. if the end's not boxed in, it'll be a lot more effective.

my b2 is NOT "road worthy" by most peoples standards and I am driving a GOOD vehicle compared to many other ohioans. not to mention mine sees about 2000 miles a year total.

Id get a heavy chain back up to a tree and chain up with a few inches of slack put the truck in gear and let it drift forward till you feel it jerk. back up and beat it with BFH and repeat till it comes lose. If you break something it needed replaced.
