what's up with the antenna in the middle of the windshield?

Why not? Weezl, you know that the waves reflect off of surfaces, so it stands to reason that it takes good advantage of the hood and part of the roof from the rear.

I have my tuned 4' Firestick mounted on my rear bumper, and although I get a good signal on my six, I don't get nearly as good of a signal from the front. Having crap in the bed doesn't help either. Obviously there are a myriad of setups and methods, but it may work as well or better than your setup with the antenna. (I'm going to relocate mine to behind the cab (centered) and see how that works.)



RSH, you have now put the bug in my ear to snap a picture of a diesel Ranger while I'm down there. I really wish we had the 4 door cab here in the states.

Yea, and I guess RSH just gets used to it being immediately in front (and just looks past it). I'm sure he'll post here in a bit. Weezl, how is your HAM setup doing?

I've been thinking about it for the past few hours, and I think another reason my signals suck could be my grounding (the bumper was a quick job). I think it's time for me to get a cheapy SWR meter.
