Roof Racks for second Gen rangers

I am not sure that Explorer roof rack bows would be a good start to building anything. They are pretty flimsy and they attach to square nuts that slide in a track. The track is bolted to the roof. It actually is removable - the track itself is plenty useful, you can cut it to length and then make your own bows. That's what I did for attaching the roof rack to my 92 Explorer so that sits almost flush with the roof. I don't know about using those tracks on a Ranger roof though, as several others said, there is not much structure there (Explorer has a lot more....) and some sort of over the cab rack will be a lot stronger. I do have a hi lift jack and about 200lbs of other gear on the roof of my Explorer all the time and have not found that it affects handling or gas mileage at all. I wheel that truck a lot and have taken it on several cross country trips so I would have noticed by now if it did.

And yes 93-97 is the 3rd generation. It always has been. I have been here since 2008 and people were calling it 3rd gen back then. Google AI search results are simply wrong.
