I am putting a new 3.0l in my 93 ranger and I want to get some more power out because it is a turd. I am looking at the 7:1 leverage roller rockers or a new cam. I am curious which one I would give me more bang for my buck and would there be any emissions conserns with either one. I found some horsepower gain specs for the roller rockers but nothing for the cam. Can anyone give me some feedback on these items?

To my knowledge, there are maybe two companies making bigger/better cams for the 3.0. Camcraft is one....their prices are a bit stiff.

The specs I saw on a stock replacement type 3.0 cam were really strange compared to the same listings for the 2.9 and 4.0 and I suspect it is related to the engine also being used in the taurus and probe. The specs I read would explain a bit as to why the torque peak is so damned high up the rev range.

Bolt on rockers could help a little. Once again, Ford decided to use the fulcrum sleds only this time it wasn't a torquey V8, but a cam-disadvantaged V6. The higher ratio, reduced flex, and lower friction would be good, and it's certainly easier to upgrade rockers.

I wouldn't be surprised if the camcraft regrinds drop the torque peak or make more average torque....I guess it depends on the amount of work one is willing to do. Maybe both upgrades?

Yet another person that knows the vulcan sucks......welcome!!!
