Rock hard clucth

Can air in the sys. cause the pedal to be hard to push down at times and then not engage at all at other times? I can not even drive the truck now.95 xl 2.3 5 spd.,Thanks

Nope, not air. Probably the throwout bearing dragging on the sleeve. Happened to mine. Wasn't exactly rock hard, but I fixed it as soon as it started to act up. If I'd let it go on much longer it would have been what you describe.
