my buddy has a 5 bay shop real nice set up and has more money wrapped up in diagnostics and software than I paid for my wife's new escape. It's unreal.

DUDES, I saw this coming back in the late 80's, computer controlled cars blow at serviceability. The same can be said of all the complex fasteners and specialized tools needed to work on today's vehicles. Just look at Chiltons, Haynes service manuals, there is so much missing information.

I did look at the manuals. After reading "don't drink the antifreeze" about a gazillion times I dozed off.

Yeah its insane how much that electronic dignosis stuff cost! The scanner alone is like 3,000+ for a good one, not to mention all of the different cards for different cars you have to get, and having to update them every year or even more if something on a vehicle changes...

I am thinking of BMW right now...

you may already know this, but late model BMWs don't even have an oil dipstick.

They don't publish the oil capacity.

Meaning that when you change the oil, you dont know how much to put in. Unless you measure what you drain out, put the same amount back in, and hope you didn't lose much from consumption or leaking.

This is of course not an issue yet because they offer free maintenance for 5 years, but once the car passes the time/mileage limit, you're either paying the dealer for it or you're on your own.

I used to be a BMW enthusiast, but they're not longer the ultimate driving machine, they're just a leather upholstered throw away Kia.
