Reusing old parts

that kind of milage id just have it bored over if for no other reason than trueing up the cylinders, just about everything at that milage could be out of round and need trueing up. might be better off with a reman short block money wise. but at least when you rebuild your own you know what youve got.

Didja do a compression test?

Yeah, I had 2 cylinders that were down 15 lbs from the rest.

Same side. did compression come up with a squirt of oil?

I was just saying the "while I am here" mindset is a pretty slippery slope.

This is the absolute truth. I likely spent a lot of extra money when I went through my Ranger engine. Since it's just a 2.3 it's not a super 'desirable' engine, either as I understand it. But I do have some peace of mind. It also kept me busy and out of trouble. I learned a ton and had a good time doing the rebuild.

I neglected to squirt oil in the cylinders. And I think different sides, I tore it apart pretty quick so it's a blurr.

My memory sucks in some regards. I have taken to having a small notebook for each vehicle in which I write all that I do to it. Including compression tests. You wouldn't believe how many times that that saved my ass.

Something that I also need to do. Idk if it's the add or just me, if my head wasn't attached I would loose it. At the same time I often can't remember if I torqued all the bolts so 99% of my work I double check.

I carry a paint pen with my torque wrench. A little dab will do ya....both on the head of the bolt and on what you're clamping. A quick glance will tell you if it's backed off. Very useful on suspension. Anywhere really.
Especially good for those long drawn out projects.
