Restoring the old Eight Nine Stang

By the way, feel free to give your opinion of the tail lights in my previous post.....which look better?

where is your exhaust? im suprised its not coming out of the bumper like mine and every other foxbody i see lol

The LX lights look better. :icon_thumby:

ABSOLUTLY!!! I've always hated the "cheese grater" look to the gt tail lamps!! I put the 83-86 lamps in my 91 GT just like the SVO's or the 93 Cobra's but without the pinstripes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I the only wierd one that likes the GT tails better? They are a bitch to clean, but...well, I dunno. I like em...

LX look too plain and boxy...

I'm not a fan of exhaust cutouts in the bumper. The only way I would show off the exhaust is if I had the LX/Cobra stainless tips with the Cobra bumper.

And I'm not so sure I'm liking the LX tails like I thought I would. Maybe it's because they aren't shiny like the rest of the car? All I can find in my budget are the damn smoked tails, and that would look retarded with white markers on the front.

I got the new O2 sensors in the mail today!!!! :yahoo:

LX all the way. Car looking good. Got to keep track of your progress more.

Has anyone resurfaced their tail lights? If so, what did you use? I used some headlight stuff I got at Harbor Freight which made them slightly better. But they aren't shiny enough yet.

Finally got around to fixing my check engine light. When I ran the test, the KOEO test, I got code 54 (ACT Sensor) but I just replaced it less than 1500 miles ago. So this had me a little stumped. So I ran the KOER test and got code 98 which means "hard fault present", plus it kept my engine at 2500rpm when it was hooked up to the scanner. Below is what I found.

I have actually relocated my ACT sensor into the bottom of my intake pipe rather than the factory location of the lower intake manifold. This not only gives a more accurate reading, but also saved my butt because this wire would have fallen into the intake runner in the factory location.

Here's another pic I took while I was in there. This is a pic of my intake and the Explorer 65mm throttle body I modified for a Mustang. My engine is dusty still from the body shop. It needs a bath!!!!

OK, one more. This is my intake from the other side. The lower is from a 96 or 97 Explorer IIRC. The upper intake is made by Downs Ford. This particular intake makes thing a lot easier to work on! I had one made by Comp Cams on my factory lower and like it a lot, so I wanted the same style. I can do rocker arms, fuel injectors, valve springs, etc. on both side by just removing the throttle body and EGR plate. I really need to remove all of the A/C crap now.

I got some of this Meguiar's Headlight Restoration stuff for my tail lights and it turned out really nice. I've really wanted to refrain from getting brand new tails because these are OEM units from 1987. Because they are from 1987 though, the tar crap Ford used to seal it (and aid in holding the lens to the housing) has gone bad and the lens fits rather loosely. This has also let some dirt, water, bugs, leaves, etc into the housing. So I went to the store Tony Stewart drives for and got some Butyl Rubber Cord Weatherstripping to seal it and also got some chrome spray paint to revitalize the reflection in the housing. I'll post up some pics when I get to it.

I've had great luck with the 3m kit. Do you have pics of the results from that one?

Not yet. I figured I was doing before and afters with the chrome stuff, so I didn't snap any when I was done. I'll post some tomorrow of what they look like now. Hopefully it's not overcast.

Well.....now that they got wet and have dried off, it appears it was not much different than putting wax on it. I'm going to go over them again this weekend. If I can't get them shining any better, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get some new ones. Here's what they look like today......they are a little dusty from all of the wind and rain.

EDIT: The kit says the higher the rpm you go, the more shiny they will be. I'll have to get the electric drill out.

I like the LX tails.

I found this pic on my phone. It's the night before the whole transformation started. Come to find out, I was just wasting my time on some of it though. I put the bumpers on it before taking it to the body shop, and he pulled them back off to paint it. I also realigned all of the ground effects, which he took back off to paint it.
