Replacing injectors

Before I dive in I thought I would reach out for pointers on replacing injectors in my 2.9. I've never done this before. Am I correct that this can be done without removing the upper intake and fuel lines? Any other tips or pointers that you all can share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Ive never been able to take the injectors out without first taking off the upper plenum and the fuel manifold first. Fuel line would be the first thing i disconnected.

- remove the battery negative cable.
- depressurize the fuel system; open the filler cap
- depressurize the fuel rail; scribe or jeweler's screwdriver to the fuel rail pressure test valve.
- Remove the upper intake manifold (it's much easier/simpler) this way.
- buy the fuel line tools to make opening the fuel line quick disconnects possible.
- get a new set of hats and O-rings.
- use a small amount of petroleum jelly when working O-rings.
- test and clean the old injectors prior to replacing them.
- test and clean new injectors before installing them.
- install the fuel rail hold down bolt for the driver's side last, with the other 2 not quite finger tight only.

Where are you sourcing injectors? I have a thread in the 2.9 forum where I replaced all with a lot of specs and #'s when I did a full rebuild. That being said I just swapped all of them back out to the originals as they are flowing excessive amounts of fuel. I would look at sending them off and hack g redone versus replace.

I wanted to say thank you to you guys for the guidance. New injectors went in today. My truck idles buttery smooth now, no shutters like previously. Seems to have more power and no longer the slight miss that I was getting in the higher rpm range. The original injectors were very dirty. My 86 has 114k miles so I know it sat for a good while. I could not be happier. Thank you.

Take pictures as you take it apart. Luckily all the harnesses and vacuum and so on are all one size fits all or their a certain length so it’s easy to put it back together but I’d take pictures if you haven’t done it before. It’s really east though.
