replacing a rear fender

is it easy to replace a rear fender on a 94 ford ranger short bed? what kind of tools do i need and do i need to do any welding. or replace the whole bed?

pull the bed off, drill out the spot welds, replace the bed side and reweld or rivet the new bedside. its sorta a big job, if you can find a clean bed for a decent price, thats your best bet.

it is a big job and it would be easier to find a new bed.

it is possible though. i helped a guy with 30 years in auto body replace a bed side on a full size 2002 chevy this summer. it took about 4 nights of work. call it 16 hours by a professional.

he also had this really cool tool that was like a C clamp, and air drill with an endmill in it that cost 700 dollars and had one purpose.... drilling out spot welds.

ive done it, it sucks, my advice...find a cheap bed and replace the whole thing

If it is a flareside it takes about 11 bolts.

thanks for all the help guys...i found a used bed for $175 on craigslist today..can anyone tell me how to replace the bed...unbolt it of course,,i think, but what about the electrical wires...how many hours would it take a shop ...or me and another guy. thanks ...

im gonna post before and after pics if i can pull this off.

oh yeah if anyone in san diego can do it, ill pay for the labor!!!!!!

Swapping the beds, not hard... But you will need at least another person or 3. start by removing the easy stuff.... The screws holding the fuel fill neck to the plastic shroud, unplug the wiring harness behind the bumper along the driver side frame rail then pull the 6 or 8 bolts holding the bed to the frame. Remove bed. Follow steps in reverse order, side note, make sure everyone lifts bed high enough to clear tires (not good on the digits, i found out the hard way). Sometimes holding the fill neck down with a bungie helps. Pretty simple process, make sure to line up the new bed close before trying to put the bolts back in. Hope this helps. Oh and it couldn't hurt to start soakin the bolts with PB Blaster or Wd 40...

what he said.....replacing a bed takes about a day with your buddies.....supply the beer and they will show up and help.

i have a bent right frame rail...would that be a problem when im changing the bed??? lining up the bolts and all. i get rearended hard on the right end corner. i dont care if its a bad job, just as long as im not stuck with a truck with no bed on it. thanks

Not that big of a problem with regards to only replacing the bed. At the most you would have to enlarge a hole or two or redrill them completely. It is a bigger concern however if it affects other stuff. So please post a picture of the frame rail.
