OK, I sort of see where you are coming from but what do you call the stock speakers?

this even though has a second cone to amplify the voice part of the speaker is considered by many as a single ( single range or multi range, which is where the confusion is coming in) , Not single range as you are implying the the unit only produces, say, 1 Khz sound constantly. In this case all car speakers are multi range, no matter if it is a single to a 4 way, each speaker is able to handle multiple frequency's.

Coaxial just means multi frequency, and after some reading I see where they consider a 2 way speaker one that covers all frequency's, low, mids that are usually dealt with by the woofer cone, and high's. A 3-way adds a mid range speaker to a post only style speaker assembly.

Right, a coaxial speaker is designed to cover the whole range. A 2 way uses two drivers to do the job, a 3 way breaks it into three.

You went off on a left field tangent in your previous post. I never said anything about single tones? The point is that component speakers break the job into completely separated drivers that are each -single- purpose for a particular range. Coaxial speakers put everything on one assembly and are called 2 or 3 way depending on how many drivers are used to accomplish that task.

I haven't heard of a coaxial (a.k.a. "dual-cone") speaker referred to as 2-way (or any number of "way") myself. I've always seen then labeled as coaxial, dual cone, or occasionally full-range.

The OP's post was from a bit over a year ago, but I'll drop Pioneer as a recommendation. I put Pioneer 6x8s in both my Fords and they sound great (they're at least as loud as the stock speakers, but much cleaner sound w/good bass response). Got 'em at Walmart.

I have the Pioneer speakers in my rig. They sound great and have a nice treble.
