1988 Ranger Extended Cab. Been in a barn something like 15 years, and I've been working on it when I'm back home for holidays. The tank was trash, so I put in a new tank, in-tank pump/sender and external pump Also replaced the fuel filter that's ahead of the external pump, and made sure the flow direction is correct.
Hooked up a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail - unless I'm missing something, Ford makes that a real pain in the butt. I can hear the pumps cycling for a couple seconds when I turn on the key, as expected. However, the gauge reads 0 pressure. I unhooked the return line at the sender, and fuel does flow out of it when the key is turned, so fuel is circulating. I made a video showing this - lighting stinks, apologies, but it's clear enough to see the fuel at least in full screen mode:
I don't know if that's a normal flow rate or not. The things I haven't replaced are the fuel reservoir back by the tank and pressure regulator. It'll crank and there is spark, but won't start and with 0 FPR that's no surprise!
Any ideas? I've read the reservoir sometimes has a filter in it, and maybe that thing is clogged/toast. The FPR gauge needle doesn't even twitch. It's screwed onto the schrader valve as tight as I can manually twist it, and it was a new purchase. At first, it wasn't tight enough and I could feel gas on the fitting.
Thanks everyone!
