Has anyone replaced their old original orifice tube (from the R-12 system) with a red orifice tube on an older RBV AC system that has been converted to R-134?

It's time to finally replace the o-rings on my "converted" system ('87 B2), and I'm considering doing this while the system is apart. Thanks.

I did this on my former 86. It didn't make a noticeable difference at the vent. Neither bad nor good.

Crap!
(But thanks for the response.)
Thought that might be an easy way to get a bit more from the system. Did you notice any significant difference in low-side & high-side pressures with the red unit? Thanks.

I converted my 86 Ranger to 134 and used the red orifice per local a/c shop. The truck never had a blue tube, so I don't know if it helped or not, but the a/c was cold, cold. I had to turn it down most of the time as it got too cold.:)shady

Is there a list of needed parts to do the conversion to r134? I have a 92 ranger with a 2.9 v6. The r12 is about dead and it leaks here and there and I don't just want to throw money at it.

Fix the leaks or it's going to suck with R-134a as well.

That's Step #1 for the retrofit.

You can read the sticky at the top of the forum.

Orifices can be confusing. My 94 Explorer service literature calls for a blue tube. When I went to my local auto parts, they cross referenced, and said it needed the red tube from this particular mfgr. I got the blue tube.

I read somewhere that GM blues were different than Fords. Diameter difference. Don't know if its true.:)shady
