I want to put a 2.9l EFI from a 1986 B2 into a 85 B2.
I need to transfer the motor, wire harness, ecu, fuel tank and fuel pump.
Would this be a better running unit? I have a donor 86 with a good engine. Can I transfer the engine and swap intake and carb from the 85, would that be better easier?
Thanks for your insight and suggestions.

If you have both side by side I think an efi swap is doable fairly easy. I grew up with carbs but once you learn how to work on efi it's a better system.

What is wrong with each one that makes turning them into one vehicle the goal.

If the 86 has a crap body and good frame/power train I'd just do a body swap.

Welcome to TRS :)

Post #3 here has a good "whats needed" for your swap: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/270716-2-8-to-2-9-swap.html

Yes, a working EFI system is better than any carb system

But............you are working with a 32 year old EFI system, computer and wiring, so...........take care when pulling out the wiring and inspect the wiring as you put it back in, 32 year old wires and connectors don't like lots of bending and pulling :)

Does the 1986 2.9l engine start and run OK?
The earlier 2.9l heads would crack if over heated, if the 2.9l vehicle has an intact cooling system you can test for cracked head or bad head gasket with the glove test, it would be a shame to install 2.9l and then have to pull the heads.

1986 2.9l computer will want to see same transmission if automatic(A4LD)
