Repainting a section of the cab.

I got some rust in the very bottom lip of the cab on my 92 super cab.

Tell me if this is the right order for painting/prep

1. Sand down to bare, clean metal with a 36grit sander(looks aren't important)
2. Wipe down with acetone
3. Paint 2 coats of Self Etching primer
4. Paint 2 coats of automotive primer
5. Sand with 400 grit for the color to stick to
6. 2 coats of color
7. 3 coats of clear


Should I replace the color/clear with a bedliner coat since this edge is exposed to road debris?

Any help would be appreciated!!

i'm going to be getting my plastic drop in bed liner taken out (hopefully this summer) and getting a new one sprayed in (for longevity), and going to see if they can do the very bottom of the sides of my truck (where the two tone decal is right now) to protect as I have rust popping up underneath the decals. i say it's not a bad idea to go with bed liner material... it'll stand up well.


i'm also going to be spraying my wheel wells with some underbody coating myself.

I underbodied the truck, but it's been 3 months and it's still sticky to the touch. It also comes off easy.

I would use a can of Rustolium Bedliner(which is what I'm going to use for the remainder of the build). It dries very quickly and has a hard, textured coat to it, not rubbery and spongy like I got.
