Hey, I’ve got a ‘99 ranger that like any other ranger in that year the heat has caused the paint to where off and now it is peeling a little and it just looks really rough. I noticed that there were multiple brands that produced the exact same color (Harvest Gold B2) I wondered if some one had already done this and it wasn’t worth it. Maybe I should sand it first? Prime it? For the price of the can I had figured I would spray it on the hood after lightly sanding the peeling spots. I’m new to painting but whatever I need to do the job right the first time I can do.

Doing it right can get pretty crazy , both in terms of expense and labor (don't ask how I know). It depends on what you want.

There are a couple of posts you can check out:

Start looking at around page 17 or so...

Rumblecloud's body work string:
Finally getting round to some body work...

Terrys87 - this is another great string
My 87 Ranger I will be restoring soon I want to keep track of my progress

The "duplicolor" route does work well from what I have read (no personal experience), but Jballard went that route and his came out really well.

I was an idiot and went the other route, but again, it just depends on what you want.

And Terry ...well - take a look.

There are lots of folks here with way more experience than me. It's just fresh in my mind cuz I just started. Keep us posted on what you decide. (y)

Thank you for the response, I may have access to a an air brush, so I’m beginning to think I may just sand it, prime it, and paint it Harvest Gold with the air brush. I’m sure that’s easier said than done though. So if anyone else’s has advice on an easier route please speak up.
