Removing frame rivets?

my neighbor took the torch to the head and hit it with a punch and a hammer popped right out
maybe your not grinding the whole head down... it might feel that you did...

Were you using a grinding disc meant for steel ?

I believe so, I bought the disk from a friend that runs a metal shop. I may need to apply a bit more pressure to the grinder to speed up the process.

Heads were completely removed, as the outline of the post was visible. I think that an air hammer will do the trick to finnish it off.

I did this on my truck 2 weeks ago. I had a 4.5 dewalt grinder. I bought (2) 4.5 grinding wheels for steel from the Depot $2.60 each. I only used one wheel on 6 rivets. I grinded the whole head off of 4 rivets in about 8 minutes.I used the x method on the ones tha ti could reach .I could see the outline of the rivet. I used my cheep airhammer with a point and the 4 rivets were out in less than a minute............it did take me 2 hours of screwing around to get the bolt/bushing out of the eye of the leafspring.. but the rivets with a steel grinding wheel come right off

ps. I did remove my bed.

You all need to man up and just use a mini sledge and a punch. Hitting your hand builds character. :) I only say this cause my air compressor was broken when i built my truck, so every little task took FOREVER!
