all removing cats does is make noise and lose bottom end response/deeper lower idle rpm. surprised this thread is still open they usually lock anything that has to do with cat removal since its against federal law to do so regardless of state requirements. as far as replacing them aftermarket companies such as magnaflow and catco make hi flow converters for cheap. mine was 60 bux plus install for my 3.0, replaced the precat and long cat with one about 12 inches long and you could see daylight thru. my truck was bogging getting 8mpg no ass whatsoever throwing cels saying rich codes. couldnt figure it out then thought about it for a min said after about 220k and using oil they are prob stopped up. low and behold that was my problem, removed them and dropped it on the floor and 3/4 inch of soot hit the ground. she runs great now altho i retired it for sticking throttle at 280k, have new part to install just havent done so yet!
