Hello,

I cannot get the speaker grill on the dash on the driver's side. does anyone know how to get a seized screw out? I can't put down any torque because of the limited space. Thanks.

Try a good #2 Phillips bit in a 1/4" wrench. Should have enough room to push the bit down hard and the wrench gives you the turning torque.

There are glues that help you remove screws, dip it on the end of the driver and stick it on the screw drive,,, it sets up and you can get the screw out.

Product name "Screw Grab"

A single dab of ScrewGrab creates a positive grip between metal surfaces (new tests have shown as high as 800%), that virtually eliminates tool wear and the stripping, rounding or deforming of fasteners
NOT a Glue
Works Instantly
Wipes CLEAN after use
Non-Corrosive

Well I put some epoxy on the bit and screw head and I'll try to get them off tomorrow. Hope it works. I wish I could get a drill up in the area.

Get a little assortment of the square-tip screwdrivers. Work like a charm on rounded out phillips screws. The business end of the screwdriver is literally a square.

They're call Robertson bits, and for the life of me I don't know why the US doesn't use them....they're the best damn screw ever invented.

Try one of these from Sears Craftsman fo $10 for tight spaces.

why not just remove the dash pad top??? the metal speaker grille come with it. Just a few screws. Then you can work on it out on a bench

Actually we do, just not in cars.

You really like those? I hate them...worst thing since slotted screws. They strip out so easy, or at least the deck screws I have do. Torx are the shit!

How do I remove the dash pad top? I would definitely take it off if I could. It would be much easier.

Square heads are the best....

Anyone that has ever built decks will agree with me.

If you cant get the screw out, I would remove the dash just enough to get a good grip on the screw.

torques all the way and iv built alot of decks

I use torx anywhere possible. If you get a good bit they rarely strip out. A few friends of mine that work construction prefer them too.

Back to the topic at hand,

Have you tried one of these?

remove the dash

+1, it will give a little more room, but FWIW the dash pad won't come completely out until the speaker is removed (so don't tug on it!). :D Getting the dash pad itself is very simple, just remove all of the screws and it pulls out. I am sure you'll find a simpler solution though.

You kidding me? We built a theater stage with them a few years ago and those things are horrible. Kept stripping out because the bits wouldn't seat.

I used the tool Shran showed to put speakers in the rear deck of my old Saturn, it works really well.
