remanufactured engines

I'm about to retire from the Army in 14 months after this last deployment ends in spring (this is #7)! So I'm thinking another motor goes in. I have mine to rebuild for standby. And I can also finish up my '49 panhead, and begin work on the '49 chevy 1 ton dually someone just found me. Hell, that'll give me two trucks, 3 Harleys, 2 Boats, a Dog, and Not a Plug Nickel in my lint filled pockets!!!!

Bird,
I'm not backing out yet. However, you did say you were keeping that short block for something future and I deeply appreciate you offering it to me. Let my Brother check out this complete motor. I'm also thinking extra parts between it and mine. You've no idea how much I appreciate all the help and wouldn't be nothing to cruise down to SA when I get back on my new Harley and buy ya a nice cold LoneStar!!! Haven't had an armadillo piss since last February! I wouldn't be in the truck because I'm going to try to limp the old BFG all terrain 31x10.50 that have 50,000 miles on them back to TN towing a trailer with two HOGS, where my 33x12.50 TSLs are. gotta stretch every mile!!!

Big Jim

Here I am stuck in Iraq, thinking I'm going to have a nightmare sourcing parts to build an engine, rebuild an engine, find a shop, etc.. Now thanks to all of you I got more options than I know what to do with!
Something tells me I'm going to spend some of my initial retirement time traveling around buying cold ones for fellow Ranger enthusiaists! Oh well, good excuse to ride my Harley, except for those who might be close and we can locate some off road terrain.
Thanks everyone!
Jay

Long awaited update

Went with the OEM Shortblock, some new casting heads from somewhere in Utah! All assembled by Brother Steve with ALL NEW Internals, cermic coated manifolds, homemade air induction insulated air tube which condensates moisture on the outside when it's hot and humid out! Getting 16-17 mpg running 33 TSL with the factory 3.73s in the diffs! Have ordered 4.56s for front and rear, keeping L/S in the 8.8 and adding a Powertrax Lock-Rite in the front. Should be in within the next week. Been being super easy on the gas with the 33s so maybe with the new gears I can drive normal again and not accelerate at the speed of a turtle to save fuel!
It pulls like a tank, hauled a single axle 3,000lb GVW trailer with two H-Ds weighing 1700lbs together from Austin to Fort Campbell right after break-in getting about 15 mpg.
