I'm putting a 302 in my 87 4x4 ranger and the rear oil pan plug is right above a cross member on the front drive. I need to relocate the drain plug, does anyone know how to do this? :icon_cheers:

I had no idea that the duel sump oil pans had left or right rear side drain plug options? If I do have the wrong oil pan can you not put in a new hole in a new location?

I've looked around online tonight and all the duel sump oil pans have the plugs in the same positions (front is on the front and the rear is on the driver side). If there is a different oil pan that has the rear driver side plug on the passenger side can I get a part number. If not, has anyone else ran into this problem and how did you resolve it? I thought I saw something on here awhile ago but I cannot find it. Thanks in advance for your help.

L and L products makes a pan to do this, kinda pricey though but very good stuff.

Thanks for the reply. Looking at L&L they show a 6 quart oil pan for $436....wow, no way that's going to happen. That looks like the only oil pan that maybe has the drain in a different area, but the photo is not real clear on their website. The 5 quart oil pan has the drain on the driver side. I cannot believe everyone doing this conversion on a 4x4 is using a $436 oil pan. There has to be another way. Anyone........

The dual sump pan I have, has the rear drain plug on the bottom of the sump, slightly towards the passenger side. It's from an 88 Crown Vic.

I think this is common on 4X4 swaps. I've seen some grinding for clearance, try reading some of the 4X4 threads.
I can't imagine welding in a new plug would be very difficult.

Never heard of this problem before.Thought you were using a single sump pan.......sorry for the short answer.
I used the Vic pan also.

Or

"gringing"
transitive verb
1) to make an oil pan fit a truck.
