My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Ok i know the basic fundamental differences, but is the price difference worth it?

I broke my old strap 3 times the other day (dont ask) and i like the idea of the slingshot effect but does it help in practice?

Also are they more dangerous then a chain like ive been reading?

Kinetic straps/ropes make a huge difference over a chain, cable, or static strap. No question.

BUT you have to take care of them and keep them clean, and stored properly and not just throw them in the bed of the truck when you're done.... I can't see you taking good care of a rope. :icon_rofl:

I'd say they are likely safer than chain since they aren't a steel projectile. Either way if their's any question about whether the strap/chain might snap you should be using a safety dampener/winch blanket. And of course you should be using the correct weight rating. People buy 10,000lb straps thinking hey my truck only weights 5,000 pounds. That doesn't mean it won't take 15,000lbs to get it out of a mudhole.

I just use a normal strap or a chain.

I do try to keep the recovery rig bigger than what gets stuck so I can just ease into it.

If overstretched, they will rebound when they break. Chain has very little rebound or recoil when it breaks. I have a short Bubba Rope and have used it. But I have only used it in a slow steady pull. I haven't needed the kinetic properties yet. The demo videos are impressive in my opinion. Like anything else, you need to use some common sense to stay safe.

The 3" harbor freight straps have been working for me, I've cheaped out and gotten the 20' 2" then realized how short 20' is! Had the wife tow me in my Tracker at one point for some reason and 20' at 35mph is kinda terrifying... The 30' 2" straps have worked for me and taken some abuse but I'm trying to work toward using the 3" more...

If pulling on/from the back of a vehicle the BEST tow point is the 2" receiver, just stick the end of the strap in and put the pin in, very little chafing, the only problem I've seen with this method is when we couldn't find a pin and all we could find was a 3/8" ratchet extension that fell out...

Hmm....i dont know then. @Dirtman youre right i dont take good care of them lol.

I guess ill consider it....might give my 2wds enough advantage to actually get shit out of things.
