ok so i just ordered 31" toyo mt's with a set of 15x8 steel wheels cost me right under 1500 now he said he will hold them untill i regear he said he could do it for 250 to 300 not including parts but i wanna do it on the cheap so wehat gears are the best price and quality im going with 4:10 and i need to do front and back.

well its 215 a tire and 75 a wheel i went thru les shuab (spelling) if i went thru discount tire it wouls have been 1300 so not much diff

I want to know what shop will only charge $300 labor to regear both axles! Usually you can just go through the shop who's swapping your gears. Sometimes if you bring your own gears in they charge more.

the toyo's are EXPENSIVE...

it is a guy i have known forever and yea the toyo's are really expensive but they are also quality

I'd probably go 4.56 with you 2.8....

sunk u think so?? would that be better.. cause i do hiway driving so i need it to be able to hit atleast 75... in a year or less im going to a 4.0 or a 302 out of my buddies mustang

Just find stock axles with 4.10s and swap them. And 4.56 is way too much for something with 31's.

Edit.... actually what gears do you have now? Its probably not really worth it to regear unless you have gears almost in the 2's. I drove my 3.0 ranger with 35's and 3.73's and it really wasn't THAT bad.

it has 3:73... so u think it would be ok i mean i dont wanna ruin anything

I have 3.73's with a 5 speed on 31"s with a 2.8, 60-65 in 4th gear isn't an issue. 5th gear is pretty much useless on anything besides flat ground and just used to keep the RPM's down. Just remember those Open Country M/T's are heavy and will drag you down a little (Assuming those are the tires you are talking about.) I personally wouldn't throw any money at the d28/7.5, if you plan on swapping axles later when you do the motor swap, why spend the money and regear twice?

true maybe i will just leave it the way it is and come to think of it not even lift or put tires on untill i get the new motor and axles and stuff. he said he will hold them for me so i dont per say have to have them on right now

Your supposed to be able to run 31's on the D28. Either way 3.73 should be enough.

Why wait? Body lift time!
