I want to go to 4.10 gears, but I was told I'd need to Regearing the front as well?

yes, you need to regear both axles, unless you dont wanna use the 4wd.

what tire size do you plan to run? depending on what you have right now, 4.10 might not be a worthwhile step given the cost, unless you can find axles to just bolt in which is generally the cheapest route.

The front and rear gears have to match, otherwise they'd turn at different speeds and you'll tear up a differential, tranfercase, driveshaft, or all of the above.

what gears do you have now? If you have 3.73's i would leave it alone. i had 3.73's and 31's on my 2.9 for 6 years and i like that setup a lot. If you have lower than that you will need to swap out the carriers in the front and the rear. and yes you need to regear both.

there aren't carrier breaks on RBV axles

If you're close to me my axles with 4.10's will be available in a couple weeks...

good call, I didn't realize it... not many people regear the tiny D28, I didn't even consider it in my plan so I'm jumping to the D35 with 5.13's

i re geared mine just for the fact that i got both sets of gears (front and rear) for 100 bucks and i don't wheel much and have never broken it.

Thanks for the info guys. Umm I think I have the 3.73's. My axle code is F62. But I do off road a little bit in sand and slight rockiness. And I'd just like the 4.10s. And Scott I'm in central cali. (bakersfield) but I do have family in Oregon... Might have to go pay them a visit. ;)
I hope I don't sound too retarded but, do I have a D28? How can I find out?

axle code f62 is a Limited slip diff and 3.73 gears. And any truck older than 1990 and without a 4.0 has a d28 they put d35's in the 1990 and up 4.0 rangers and some early 90's 4cyl 4x4s have a d35 housing and d28 internals.

Ok so when swapping to the d35 how can I check to make sure it does NOT have the d28 internals?

Thanks that page is really helpful! The side by side comparison is crazy the d28 is tiny!
Ranger, where'd you find gears for 100$?!
