First off, I wasn't sure where to put this. If it's in the wrong place, sorry!

I recently aquired a '66 f100 with a 390 that was rebuilt 3k miles ago. Since driving it around, it has developed a tick on one of the lifters. Besides checking oil pressure, does anybody have suggestions on getting rid of the tick? It's worse when hot. I haven't taken apart anything yet, I was gonna save that for after I check the oil pressure.

Look also for spark tick and exhaust tick...they can both sound like lifters...unless you've already isolated it to the lifters...in which case...check to see if they are adjustable...I remember some engines had to be adjusted after they were broke in...

I agree with Mark. Once you are absolutely sure it's a lifter tick check the valve lash. A 66 engine should have solid lifters, which require periodic adjustment.

Thanks, I'll check for both exhaust tick and spark tick. I'd much rather it be one of those!
