"Rear" Turbo

I can't tell if your just being a tard or if your serious lol

I do know for a fact that is referred to as a Centrafugial supercharger.

hmmmmm yep centrifugal supercharger (but they have turbo wheels)..... apparently it's still called a supercharger technically because it is belt driven, not powered by the engines own exhaust..........
but it it the same turbo wheel concept unlike a standard supercharger. You don't need an intercooler...... actually hell, I love the entire concept of them.

I used to run a 66/71 Ind. Inj. turbo, i remembered seeing my first (centrifigal super) in Hot Rod a few years back, and I have an 8-71 roots blower...... the blades are not similar in any way shape or form (other than that they move air)
the cent. super, is much more like a turbocharger than a standard supercharger.

I've never seen the term centrifigal supercharger so your right on the wording.

Yeah i guess thats the main difference between a turbo and a super, just the way it is driven and makes power.

Lol I knew about the different supercharges before gaming but thats playing Forza Motorsports for ya! :icon_rofl:

i've only heard of procharger and i looked on their page and it says centrifugal supercharger. But any way you say it people would know what you talk about here is the link to what i was talking about. http://www.procharger.com/superchargers.shtml

Yeah pro charger is pretty popular with those kinda chargers... They are more popular on newer rigs because you don't need to really mess with the engine much. liek removing the intake and the fuel rail and stuff.

They make a little less power then a roots type or whatever its called. I personally like the roots type better, Whats not to like about a massive aircompresser bolted on top of your engine?

i would prefer a turbo love the sound of the BOV between shifts and the fact that they recyle energy instead of taking up energy from a supercharger. and yes the top mount super charger is called a roots style and yea on classic muscle cars with a twin screw interal intercooler roots type blower with dual quads and a scoop you cant beat the looks and sound of that any days

If its a mild BOV I like the sound but personally I like the supercharger screaming on gassers, Now a TURBO DIESEL I love the sound of a big arse turbo spoolin up!

As far as the debate goes with whether the remote mount works or not, or is worth it, there is a guy in Columbia MO with a newer GTO 6.0 with the STS. He makes 800hp with his remote mount, that's with a mild port job, turbo friendly cam, injectors and a tune.

i love the sound of a ge2 lighting with underdrive pully on the supercharger they sound awesome

As far as being "street only" why not build a simple shield around it with vents? Concerning turbo lag I wonder about this: if the exhaust is already "full" wouldn't an increase of exhaust at the engine end of the pipe almost instantly increase the exhaust at the exit end? I had also wondered about placing the turbo closer to the y-pipe or cat conv. to make it easier to plumb the oil line back to the engine and use an aluminum pipe back to the intake to get rid of heat. I appreciate all the posts and it has answered some questions as well as brought some up. It would seem easier to do one of these turbo set ups especially on a newer vehicle were you might not want to do any major mods under the hood. I just went to www.ststurbo.com......very impressive. $1995 for the universal kit seems pretty reasonable but of course that doesn't include tuning.

For those who care, pro charger is a good centrifugal dealer as well as Vortech. There are quite a few others as well, you can find them mostly in the muscle car magazines. Kenne Belle, Whipple and a few other make Positive displacement superchargers(or twin screw) and There is two types of those as well. Turbonetics is an awesome turbo dealers and great products.

And no a belt driven turbo powered by the drive shaft would NOT work simple because there is too much movement in a driveshaft to allow proper working. Also when you add the belt tension required to move a high boost centrifugal supercharger you will 'unbalance' the driveshaft adding vibration and robbing ride quality as well as any power gain.

If your trying to make a choice; Turbos are ideal for mid-high rpm power gain and if properly sized can actually give good power across the board. Super chargers also can do good throughout the rpm range, but primarily excel in low to mid rpm ranges. The twin screw superchargers are a personal favorite for big torque numbers. And centrifugals I prefer for a balance between torque and Hp. However all versions of forced induction can be properly tuned to complete any job.
