rear mounted Rad

just wanted to know if a stock 4.0l rad is to small to mount in the bed of my truck, or should I find a bigger one to cool the engine.

I'd think it would be fine as you are adding more capacity to the system to help cool it and you will also have choice of fans at that point to

I use a suburban radiator in the back of my ranger, I don't know that I would trust that small of a radiator in the back of a truck.

BTW make sure the radiator cap is the highest point in the system. Had a friend whose truck overheated because there was a serious bubble in the system somewhere(rear radiator). simonsays probably has some more pointers about that though.

Good point, that can defiantly cause some issues. I would also recommend putting it far enough back that u pull the air in from above the cab. (basically above or behind the axle, not in front of it)

I would suggest using a Ford Taurus fan, sounds weird I know but it actually pushes about 2x as much air as a normal hayden fan plus they can be picked up at a junkyard for like 20bucks.

Also...

Look into putting another in-line radiator cap new the water pump on the engine side..

It will help with filling and bleeding the air out..

Also, with a in-line cap you can mount your radiator lower..

On mine I just added a bleeder port to the top radiator tube, works out good for getting air bubbles out.
