hi , im in the middle of fixing the rear frame (rusted out behind the rear spring hangers) and making up a new mounting point for my rear bumper , i could have swaped the rear frame section for a rust free one , or cut the frame rails off infront of the hangers , replaced the hangers and welded in new metal , but overall the frame is still pretty solid and the hangers are still good , so im going this route , so far i've removed the bumper mounting bolts (that was fun) :annoyed: , removed the rear bumper , and am in the beginning stages of cleaning up the frame and spare tire carrier , the plan thus far is to buy eight grade 8 bolts , nuts , and lock washers , and use two roughly 13'' long by 1 1/2x1 1/2 pieces of angle iron bolted to the frame (farther forward) and bolted to the original bumper brackets , anyway thats the plan , we'll see how well it works lol

YIKES:shok: You guys that live in the rust belt should put zinc anodes on your rigs like a boat.:icon_idea:

update time , i didn't get much done today , had some other things i had to get done before heading to town to get the last of the parts i needed , anyway below is a list of what i ended up buying

(1) 1/2'' cobolt irwin drill bit
(8)1/2 13 size grade 5 bolts
a pack of 25 , 1/2 13 size nuts

once i got home i finished cutting the angle iron to right length and drilled four 1/2 '' holes in the angle iron , then bolted them to the original bumper brackets and got the bumper mocked up into place , still need to drill the four holes through the frame/other end of the angle iron , then the bumper will be coming back off to finish cleaning up the frame and spare tire carrier , then the bumper will go back on for the final time

ok so this project is now done :D , below is a list of what was involved

(1) finished cuting away the old rustly metal from the spare tire carrier and far rear end of the frame rails....
(2) rubberized undercoated the rear section of frame and spare tire carrier
(3) disassembled the rear bumper (ie removed the plastic bumper step cover) and sanded the surface rust off the bumper
(4) painted the bumper with rubberized undercoating and reassembled the bumper
(5) bolted the new extention brackets to the frame and bolted the bumper to the new brackets
(6) installed the almost rust free tailgate

still need to glue the license plate light len back together and reinstall it , and that'll be about it

You've cured cancer!!!

Take a look at chassis saver from magnet paints if the rubberized undercoating doesn't last.

Ya. It's a cheaper version of POR15. I user rollers to apply it. If it sticks to the rust as well as it did to my hands, arms, face, and scalp it will be great! I haven't winter tested it yet but brinker88 swore by it!
