I have the 8.8 3.73 Limited slip rear end, It makes a chirping noise and I was told it was the clutches? Can someone explain this stuff to me? I dont get anything about Limited Slip or How I fix that stuff... :dunno:

Thanks Ryan!! :icon_cheers:

the limited slip uses a clutch pack inside the rear axle to prevent one wheel from getting more power under hard acceleration. and due to the naturally heavy foot of people who have an LSD, they got worn out easily!

inside the carrier of your axle are clutch packs that wear out. possibly the clutch packs need to be replaced, and the fluid changed... aswell as the proper friction modifier added.

it's not overly hard to do, just time consuming, and a lil frustrating if you've never done it. i'm sure you can find information and changing them on here somewhere. best of luck!

back in the day at the dealership, we would drain the oil out of the rear end & refill it with automatic transmission fluid. Then we would drive the car thru town making lots of turns at intersections for about 45 minutes. Then we would drain out the transmission fluid and refill the rearend with the correct oil/additive.

That usually solved the chirping/jerking problem when turning corners...if it didn;t help, the cluctchpack was replaced.

Like as in your tires chirping around corners?

Is it pricey?

I priced this out for my swap axle. With fluids and the axle and pinion seals I was looking at a little over $150.

sounds like the fluid needs changed and friction modifier added.

basically the clutches are grabbing tightly and not slipping around corners, the friction modifier is worn out.

changing the fluid is the cheapest try you have.. if it doesn't work then live with it or replace the clutches.

is there an echo in here?

If this was the truck that you just bought it is possible the previous owner didn't use any friction modifier in the diff so that the clutches would hook up better....

A fluid you add to a limited slip differential so that it does not chatter and cause tire chirping.

Nice! I thought I remembered you saying they were pretty close to you.

Yeah! Its so nice living close to them! I can order parts at my house drive there and just pick them up and not have to wait!
