well ive got a 2.9L 88 4x4 ranger and im doing a v8 swap and i need a different rear end and i wanna know what would be best to match my current ratio in the front like an 8.8 from an explorer with disc brakes or an 8.8 from a ranger with drum brakes and what not i can get any of them for 150$ ive already talked to the junk yard owner and he said 150$ for any rear end i can find if i pull it and i was wondering if this is a good price and what i should get i dont wanna deal with something 2 wide i just wanna get something that will bolt in alright

If you want a rearend that matches your current one, look for the 8.8 from a '90-'92 4.0L Ranger.

What size tires will you be running on it? If over 33" or so, you may want to do the slight bit extra work to get the Explorer 8.8 under there, as it has bigger axleshafts. The Ex 8.8 is 3" wider than your current rear.

Either 8.8 will require you to swap the rear yoke on your driveshaft (has a bigger pinion flange).
