Rear doors

having been a tech about 10 years ago (I did it for 15 years) I can say that the mentality has shifted slowly from technicians to parts changers. especially since pay has not done well for mechanics recently. Now onto engines. I was told by a local mech that the 4.0 is the one I want but where can I find more information. I looked at Edmond's it looks like the 4.0 wasn't available until 2001? is that the case?

4.0 OHV (pushrod) engine was available from 90-00. 4.0 SOHC was available 2001+

4 doors on the Supercab became an option late in 98. Later on they were standard on XLT's IF you got an upgrade package like an Off-Road or FX4. So it depends, most Supercabs are 4 doors but some are not. Even if no one hardly ever sits in the back it's a lot easier to put stuff back there with the doors.

On my 99 XLT the 4 doors were an extra cost option. On my 02 Off-Road they were included.

so what model came with 4.56? I see that in 2001 it became an option 8.8 with 4.56 and 10" brakes did any rangers come with rear disc brakes?

Weren't the 4.56 only on the FX2 or whatever the FX model was?

I had 4.10s in my 03 Edge, and I'm fairly sure I also had rear-disc brakes.

I just read on edmunds.com that my 03 had rear latch anchors, makes me wish I hadn't upgraded to the sport trac, but I can't imaging having a car seat on those jump seats.

i dont believe they put disc brakes on the rear until 2010, but im not positive. I thought i read a thread about it on here somewhere

i think rear discs werent available
about rear doors
a friend has a 98 4.0 with rear doors
my brother has a 00 with doors too
another friend has a 04 and no doors
so yeah those were optional
