Rear Door Speakers

Jay your not the only one, I broke both of my rear door pannels trying to get them off. But I got lucky enough to not have rattles but it still bothers me to no end that I have a big crack in the one.

That sucks! But at this point, I'd almost rather have a cracked panel than the rattles! I would even be willing to drive 50 screws through the panel if I knew it would help....

I know that it rattles more with the panel on but maybe the latch. panel gives the door something to rattle:dunno:

the end of that article shows what sounds to me like exactly what you're experiencing... check it out brosef.

"This part was a little annoying so I couldn't get any pictures. Make sure you don't have any of those little push pins still stuck in the door, then light them up with the holes in the door and work your way around the panel pushing them in. If you don't do this you will have a loose panel that rattles under any bass from the speakers."

Maybe. Jay did you check

How about taking the seat belt and clipping it in in the rear to help rule the seat belts out? I used to have a rattle in my truck whenever I hit a bump. Come to find out the dumbass who had the truck before me put the jack down behind the flip out seats. I don't think your truck has the seats like mine though, it's only 2 door. Should I go rip the doors off my neighbors ranger?:icon_confused::icon_rofl:

Seriously though. Try connecting the seat belts and see what happens.

+1 it's often the most simple things that cause the biggest grief

I'm 100% positive I didn't leave any clips stuck in the door. And I will try the seatbelts tomorrow, although I don't think that's the problem. On the outside of the truck, the rattle seems to be coming from directly behind the speaker.
The tweeters have a little 3 bar "grille" covering them. I noticed on the passenger side, the speaker is actually touching the panel. Pushing and pulling all around that area but it didn't seem to help, so I don't think that's it either.

On to the good stuff......
I finally got the Basslink installed, and I am totally thrilled with it! It exceeded my expectations by a mile! So for the time being at least, I'll just keep the bass turned down on the Pioneers and enjoy the sub. But at some point soon, I am definitely going to try to do something about the doors.

My Basslink setup is going to be sweet. For now I'll just say that I'm not going to be losing either of my jump seats, I won't be losing ANY cargo room, and I'm not even going to lose the rear cupholders! :yahoo::headbang:
I'll start a new thread on the sub (with pics) once it's complete! :D

And thanks again guys for taking the time to respond! If you guys think of anything else I can try PLEASE let me know! And if anyone lese has any suggestions, I'm all ears! :icon_cheers:

why not adding some rubber stripes on the back of the speakers, so it doesnt vibrate against the door? also do the same to the dor panel, my bro had a rattle on one of his doors(his 00 is 4 door too), happens that the prev owner did a complete cleaning and the clips were bent, and not fitting properly, we removed it and put back , worked great no more rattle.
or try this: remove the speakers and hit the door with the hands to see if the door is the problem not the speakers(with panel on/removed) or do it with the speaker bolted in too, just to be sure the door itself isnt rattling

Jay, are the funny little grills on the speakers loose? My friend's car has some Xplods in it and the tweeter covers (?) are loose and they made a heck of a buzz until we snapped them back on fully. And do check the door itself with the covers and speakers off. Give it a little shake and see what happens.

i'd be suspicious of the speaker covers as well. have had that problem myself. ended up putting some sealant all around the edges before screwing them back down. that did it for mine.

(if he ever gets this figured out, i don't know what i'll do for entertainment.)

Any update Jay?

Alright, I've been looking at that Basslink too, it's pretty slick. I really hope you can resovle this. I've been thinking, do when you pulled of the panel did any snaps (those little christmass tree pins) break or strip? For the couple bucks at your nearest NAPA it might be worth while just to replace them all, technically there are single use. Just a thought.
