Rear brakes...piecing them together!

Hahaha, I thought I explained that, but I did not. Good catch Scott.

you were almost there, I saw where you were going... :)

The only place I've seen the auto adjusters that work by just pumping the pedal is on the back of my Justy... I think it's an import thing. My justy might be a POS, but it's saved me $1000 INCLUDING the cost of the car and insurance over the last year...

I'm glad it's coming together, I know the feeling, I just wish I had gotten mine going at the BEGINNING of summer instead of the end, we've lost over 15 minutes of light this week alone. Summer not starting til August sucked... haven't had any fun yet.

I've adjusted the adjusters on my dodge before...and all I can say is they are such a pain!

Anyway, my e-brake is not functioning...i've hooked them up, but the threaded rod that that adjusts the tightness of the e-brake is failing...

The problem is when I turn the nut the whole wire turns. So, I took my vice grips on the wire (the end where its square) and it would slip when I turned the bolt. I'm going to try some pb blaster and some heat to see if I can get it free.

I didn't understand why, but my '94 doesn't have e-brake cables with the threaded rod for adjustment. So, I ended up taking out the brake bar that sits between both shoes, to solve the problem.

Oh, and now that I'm swapping everything from my wrecked ranger over to a new frame, I went to take the cables out and I had to cut them completely out. However, I'm glad I'm getting new cables now.

Were you able to adjust them like Scott and I described?

No, I just took the wheels and drums off. I had to turn them multiple times to get them even close. It would work if I wanted to lay on the ground and stick a screw driver in the back of the backing plate. I figured this was would be the best and I could see my results.

Its weird how they change things like that. Anyway, I used pb blaster a then some heat and I got the nut to free up and I tightened the rod...the ebrake will lock the wheels up when driving but the cable is still loose and kinda dangles.

Which part of the cable dangles? Is it the bare part of the cable, or the sheathed part? And are you saying that it's loose even when the e-brake is set?

Do you have the return spring in the back?

When I swapped in my 8.8 I had to use a nut splitter on the adjuster nut, it DID NOT want to turn no matter what

The part that goes from the front of the cab (I guess the ebrake) to the part that makes it into two cables. It works fine now though so I'm not going to worry.

What return spring?

I used the stock ebrake setup. Had no problems

I have to remember that my connector is hanging off a hole in my cab. Can't forget that before I move the truck! Haha.

there's supposed to be a spring from the frame above the rear axle to the adjuster thing to take the slack out of the cable so it doesn't dangle like that

Oh yeah that spring is there. But it isn't attached to the axle...its attached to the frame then to the cable itself. I was more worried about the slack before that.

Pics if the brake setup...

Looking good!

How old is the picture of the differential cover? I almost wanted to say, "Why do you not have your e-brake cables in," but then thought that it might be an older picture.

I'm loving the look of your ranger!

Thanks!

That was like a week ago. I was just putting the axle in. I plan on getting a better cover when I change my oil. This is like a fiberglass or plastic cover...its definitely weak!

My next goal is to get insurance and registration so I can drive it. Then I'm working on getting a d35 and regearing it. I'm loving this project though. Future goal would be turbo!:)
